From the moment they are born babies can listen to music. Being sung to helps your child develop a sense of melody and rhythm. It also teaches them a love of music and musical expression.
Additionally, music is an important part of ear training and plays a valuable part in a baby’s development. Early exposure to singing, listening to and playing music, research has shown, can enhance a whole range of educational skills such as language and numerical skills, fine motor skills and an awareness of space and one another.
Babies flourish in a stimulating musical environment. Whether through singing, dancing, cuddling, talking or clapping you can encourage the pathways of your baby’s brain to make new connections.
There are several different choices here in Kelowna if you would like to take your infant to a music class.

Music for Young Children - Teacher Leanne's Music Studio
Courses available are:
Music Pups: A fun, informal music and movement program for infants & toddlers ages 0-5. Music Pups is a music program that nurtures young children by motivating parents to engage in musical activities with their child. The Music Pups experience creates students who more fully develop their pitch and rhythm skills and are more responsive to music in general. Come have fun singing action songs, dancing with scarves, and playing different rhythm instruments!
Sunrise: Sunrise is an exciting and innovative pre-school music program for children two and three years old. The program has a flexible format that allows adaptation to a variety of age and environmental situations including daycare and nursery school centers as well as home studios of certified Music for Young Children Sunrise teachers. Children receive instruction in singing, rhythm, and ear training with teddy bears being one of the learning "tools". This specially developed music curriculum includes stories, songs and games.
Sunshines: This program, for three and four year old beginners includes large muscle experiences in beat and rhythms as well as fine motor experiences in rhythm instrument ensemble playing. By the end of the first year, Sunshines are playing in C major and middle C positions and are reading from the staff. Pre-reading experiences – such as like and different sorting, looking for patterns with colorful visual aids, gluing and coloring -- are part of the program.
Sunbeams: The program for kindergartners and first graders provides “big kid” lyrics to introduce concepts, finger numbers and keyboard geography. Songs and games are used to encourage and reinforce listening.
Moonbeams: For the older beginner, ages seven through nine, the program lasts three years. Our Moonbeams want “quick results” and the songs, ensembles and keyboard repertoire are designed to support their growing sense of independence. The listening activities for this age group keep the “ears open” even as reading becomes the primary focus for gathering information.
Also available are:
Private Piano Lessons: One-on-one time with the teacher learning some theory & playing various styles of music.
Private Voice Lessons: Learn to sing well and have fun. Focus on proper vocal technique, sight-singing, & solfege.
